The Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga is the foundation for vinyasa flow yoga classes. The Sanskrit name for the Primary Series is ‘Yoga Chikitsa’ which translates as ‘Yoga Therapy’. For this practice, the breath is our music. We settle into each asana posture for five breaths. This allows us to dial in the alignment and subtleties of each posture. The Primary Series is a specific sequence of postures that flows from Sun Salutations to warm up, followed by a standing series, a seated series, backbends, inversions and then a closing series to cool down the body before our final savasana.
